Rain Douses Westport

If Frankie Bergonzi and the other volunteers setting up for the Westport Library Book Sale thought the heat was tough to deal with yesterday, now they can see how watertight their tents are. The national weather service expects the rain to continue through the night, with a possible thunderstorm after 8 p.m.

Winds aren’t expected to get much higher than 11 mph. To that end, the moisture isn’t expected to drop the heat much lower than 73 tonight.

Most of the rain is expected to be light, with less than an inch in most areas. However an advisory has been released that localized thunderstorms could result in one to two inches in a relatively short time. They advise to be aware of the potential for minor urban flooding. The weather service considers Westport in a large region that includes New York and New Jersey, so reports can vary. Right now, they do not expect anything more severe.
