FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The news is getting worse: We can expect 10 to 14 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
The latest bulletin that includes Fairfield County was issued at 4:27 p.m. Saturday and also predicts wind gusts of up to 65 mph, although the strongest winds will be east of the Connecticut River. The winter storm warning in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday says that the temperature will be 30 degrees, with visibility down to a quarter mile or less at times.
"Snow will be heavy at times through midnight," the bulletin states, "before tapering off from west to east late. Rain will mix with the snow at times along the immediate shoreline. In addition to snow, winds will intensify this evening with damaging winds continuing through the night."
We can expect widespread downed trees and power outages. Travel is predicted to be "extremely hazardous."
At 6:44 p.m. CL&P reports:
2,919 Darien customers without power, 37 percent of town;
4,461 Greenwich customers without power, 15 percent of town;
5,534 Norwalk customers without power, 18 percent of city;
3,286 New Canaan customers without power, 39 percent of town;
8,686 Stamford customers without power, 15 percent of city;
2,880 Weston customers without power, 75 percent of town;
4,300 Westport customers without power, 34 percent of town; and
4,140 Wilton customers without power, 56 percent of town.
Metro-North is reporting delays on its New Haven line, with service to New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury suspended.
The Monster Mash scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk has been canceled.
