The woman died around 7:45 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11 after hitting the back of a tow truck in Middlesex County.
Hartford County resident Lindsey Pelletier, of New Britain, was traveling north in a 2017 Nissan Altima in Middletown on South Main Street and struck the rear of a 2022 Chevrolet flatbed tow truck traveling north as well, according to Middletown Police Chief Erik Costa.
Officers on the scene found Pelletier trapped in the driver's seat and her 3-year-old child in the rear of the Nissan, said Costa.
The child had no obvious injuries, but Pelletier was unresponsive, the chief said.
Officers and medical personnel removed the driver from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures but she died at the scene, he added.
Officers confirmed that the child in the vehicle was Pelletier’s son. The minor child’s name is not being released. He was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford for evaluation.
The tow truck operator was not injured during the collision.
During the preliminary investigation, witnesses indicated that Pelletier was traveling north on South Main Street at a high rate of speed before passing a vehicle in front of her using the southbound lane, Costa said.
Pelletier moved back into the northbound lane but it appears she was unable to slow her vehicle quickly enough to avoid striking the rear of the tow truck.
The collision is being investigated by the Middletown Police Department’s Traffic Division.
