Monroe Firefighters Battle House Blaze In Freezing Temperatures MONROE, Conn. — Monroe volunteer firefighters were out on a frigid New Year's Day to battle a blaze in a home on Elm Street, according to a Facebook post. The fire was at 689 Elm Street, which was closed in the area while crews were working at about 2 p.m., according to the department.   It was the fourth call of the day for crews, who battled an earlier chimney fire, according to the Facebook post. The Stepney Fire Department and Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company provided mutual aid, and White Hills Fire Company from Shelton responded as the RIT.
