5 Escape Burning Norwalk House; Smoke Alarms, Home Renovation May Have Saved Them A Fairfield County family of five, including four young children, avoided tragedy early Tuesday morning, Jan. 28, thanks to their smoke detectors, which alerted them to a fire in their Norwalk home. The blaze began just before 4 a.m. on Cudlipp Street. An adult and four kids younger than six were jolted awake by fire alarms, prompting firefighters to respond to the under-construction home in the Rowayton area of the town. Actor Treat Williams, Stamford Native, Killed In Crash Connecticut native and well-known actor Treat Williams best known for his role in the TV show "Everwood" and the movie "Hair," was killed in a crash in Vermont. Williams, who grew up in Fairfield County, in the city of Stamford, was killed around 4:50 p.m., Monday, June 12 in Bennington County on Vermont Route 30 in Dorset. Williams was born in Stamford and grew up in Rowayton, a coastal village in the city of Norwalk. Victims Extracted From Separate Crashes Overnight In Fairfield County A fire department in Fairfield County performed two separate vehicle extractions overnight.  The first extrication in Norwalk occurred at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Wilson Avenue, in the Rowayton section of the city, just after 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6.
