A pair of first-time Congressional candidates scored decisive wins in much-watched Democratic primaries in downstate New York. Westchester County Executive George Latimer easily defeated two-time incumbent Jamaal Bowman in the District 16 race, 58 percent to 41 percent, with 84 percent of the vote in, according to the New York State Board of Elections. Disgraced former New York Congressman George Santos is declaring his independence. The ex-lawmaker from Long Island – who was ousted from his 3rd District seat representing parts of Nassau County and Queens – announced that he is leaving the Republican Party on Friday, March 22, following what he described as an “embarrassing showing” in the House hours earlier.
