Wild Things Slug Out Wild Win

On the final day of the regular season, the Wild Things of the Weston women's softball league had some unfinished business to address. With the second seed in the playoffs on the line, the Wild Things held off a strong comeback from the Weed Whackers to win 8-6.

Stacey Rubenstein and Tammy Link sparked the Wild Things offense with RBI singles and fantastic defense at shortstop and second base, respectively. The Weed Whackers came storming back with two runs in the fourth on big hits from Meg Brooks and Chanell Meijer. The game did not stay tied for long when the Wild Things re-took the lead with a solo home run by Jenny Burke. Burke also ended the game with a fantastic leaping catch in foul territory.

With the win, the Wild Things will get a first-round bye in the six-team playoffs. The 20-30-40 Somethings are the top-ranked team. The Weed Whackers will take on the New Kids on the Block, while Peter's Spirits takes on 2K+C tomorrow evening in the first round.

"This league has been playing for over 22 years and it's a great way for women in Weston to really enjoy a team experience," Lisa Brodlie, captain of the Wild Things, said. "It's a lot of fun."
