The race — which Y officials said draws open-water swimmers from Westport and beyond — raises funds for the Y’s Annual Support Campaign, which allows the Y to offer camp scholarships, subsidized or free memberships, and other aid to local families and individuals in need.

Starting near the cannons at Compo Beach, participants will swim around buoys and end with a sprint across the sand to the finish line, Y officials said. In all, the race amounts to a distance of one mile.

The race is separated into three heats based on predicted finish times, giving all participants an appropriate field in which to compete, the Y said. Race registration and check in begins at 8 a.m., and the first of three heats will start at 9 a.m.

The event will also include a Kids’ Swim, starting at 10 a.m., for kids ages 6 to 10.

There will be an awards ceremony following the Kids’ Swim, during which time each registered swimmer will get an official Point to Point T-shirt. Also, each of the top three men’s and women’s swimmers in each age group will be awarded a collectible mug.

Last year’s event drew more than 120 participants, including competitors from New York, New Jersey and all of New England, Y officials said.

The registration fee for the Point to Point swim is $45 and can be paid online or in person at the Family Y's Member Services Desk through Friday. The entry fee for the Kids' Swim is $20. Day of race registration is $55.

All registration sponsorship fees will benefit the Annual Support Campaign.

Saturday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 90. There is a chance of thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. In the event of rain, the race will be held Sunday.
