Westport Players Help Basketball Team Win Nutmeg Gold

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport residents Mack Muller and Justin Seideman helped The United Sons and Daughters 14-and-Under boys basketball team win a gold medal in the Nutmeg State Games over the weekend. The team is coached by Doug Scott, the boys basketball coach at Greens Farms Academy in Westport.

The United Sons and Daughters defeated Lower Naugatuck Valley 61-58 in overtime to win the gold.

In pool play, USAD beat the CT Northstars (Hartford) 76-36, The Shehan Center (Bridgeport) 63-51, East Hartford Rough Riders 58-31, STAR Athletic Club (New London) 52-41. In the quarterfinals, USAD topped New Haven 56-42 and in the semifinals, they, rolled to a 77-36 win in a rematch against STAR AC.

In the championship game, USAD had 15 point lead in the second, but suffered  foul trouble which sparked a LNV comeback. USAD then found the answers for a thrilling win in the extra period. In addition to the 2013 Nutmeg State Games gold medal, USAD also won this year's Connecticut State AAU championship. The team wraps up its summer season this week traveling to Orlando, FL  to compete in a national AAU tournament.
