Westport Coxswain Leads Ohio State To NCAA Rowing Crown

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s Sami Jurofsky helped the Ohio State women’s crew team win its second straight national title Sunday in Indianapolis.

Jurofsky, a junior, worked as the coxswain for the Buckeyes’ Second Varsity 8. Ohio State won that race and also the first varsity eight race. The Buckeyes won the overall title with 126 points, followed by California with 118 points and Brown with 116.

Jurofsky, a Staples High grad, served as the coxswain for several crews last year as a sophomore. She was the coxswain for the second varsity four that won a bronze medal at the 2013 Big 10 championships.

She won a Big 10 championship earlier this year when she directed Ohio State’s to a victory in the second varsity four.

Jurofsky began her rowing career at Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport and was the coxswain for the boys varsity eight. She is the daughter of Howard Jurofsky and Hyleri Katzenberg. In 2009, she was on an NBC show with her family called “The Great American Road Trip.”
