Weston's Vento Takes 2nd at State Open

Stephen Vento took second in the 3,200 meters and Weston's girls finished fifth in the sprint medley relay to lead Trojan athletes at Saturday's State Open track and field meet at the New Haven Athletic Center.

Vento ran 9:31:02 and took second behind Fairfield Prep's Connor Rog. Vento won the Class S championship in the same event. Saturday's time is the 49th best in the nation this season, according to ESPNRISE, which monitors national track performance times.

Weston's sprint medley relay team took fifth with Sara Dietzman, Hanna Goodman, Callie Arlo and Kara Bucaro. Dietzman and Goodman ran 200 meters, Arlo ran 400 meters and Bucaro ran 800. They were timed in 4:20:51, an impressive five seconds faster than their seeded time. Norwich Free Academy won the race in 4:14.96.

Also for the girls, Erica Litvak finished fifth in the pole vault, followed by Emily Savage. Litvak cleared 10 feet, and Savage jumped 9 feet, 6 inches. Bucaro also finished eighth in the 1,000 meters. The girls 4x200 team took 13th.

Weston's boys were 12th in the 4x800 relay with Paul Philpott, Noah Krassin, Sam Rueben and David Stankiewicz.
