Weston's Emily Savage Wins Two State Track Events

WESTON, Conn. – Weston junior Emily Savage won two events to lead the Trojans to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the Class M outdoor track and field championships at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.

The Weston girls finished with 61.5 points. Tolland won with 82, followed by Nonnewaug with 75 and Montville with 63. Weston’s boys finished 10th with 21.5 points.

Savage picked up 20 points for Weston with her two victories. She cleared 11 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault, breaking the Class M record of 11 feet set three years ago by Teresa Parker of Bacon Academy. Janie Wall (third), Tess Fagan (sixth) and Andrea Janis (seventh) also picked up points in the event for Weston.

In the triple jump, Savage soared 35 feet, 8 ¼ inches. Natalie Bowens was second with a leap of 35 feet, 7 ½ inches. Sara Dietzman took fourth in the event for Weston. Savage was also fourth in the long jump.

Other girls who earned points for Weston included Whitney Farber (fourth, 200); Nina Low (seventh, 800); the third place 4 x 100 relay; the third place 4 x 400 relay; and Ellie Martin (seventh, javelin).

Weston’s boys were led by David Stankiewicz, who finished fourth in the 800. Jonathan Savicky was eighth in the 400, and Christopher Chao was seventh in the 300 hurdles. The 4 x 100 relay took sixth, and the 4 x 400 relay grabbed third. The names of relay participants were not available.

In field events, Harry Manning took fifth in pole vault. The top performers will advance to the State Open on Monday at Willowbrook. Complete results are available online.
