Weston Youth Football Kicks Off New Season

WESTON, Conn. – Weston youth football kicked off its fall season Tuesday with a Meet the Coaches night at Weston High School.

Weston High School football coach Joe Lato introduced the program, which provides tackle football games for kids in grades 5 to 8 and flag football for kids in grades 1 to 4. Paid and volunteer coaches attended and met with parents and players after Lato spoke.

The teams will play in the Fairfield City Youth Football League, which pits Weston against teams from Darien, Wilton, Westport, Norwalk, Fairfield and Ridgefield.

“The goal is to be the best at what we do and have fun in the process,” Lato said.

The program gets started this weekend with a Triple Gun Camp for seventh- and eighth-graders. A number of other camps and clinics are scheduled for this summer before practice begins Aug. 13. Games start the end of August.

Currently, 190 boys and girls are registered as players and cheerleaders with registration still open at www.trojansfootball.org.

Parent volunteers are needed for a variety of positions, including assistant coaches, equipment and banquet team managers, and fundraisers.

Kay Spencer, a volunteer with the program whose son Zachary will play on the eighth-grade team, said Weston’s youth football program is a success “because of Coach Lato’s direction, the Weston identification and the Weston field practice locations.”
