Weston Women's Softball Seeks Players

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weed Whackers have been part of the Weston Women's Softball League for nearly a decade. They need more players, however, if they are going to be part of the league this summer.

The team is seeking women of any age. Games are Tuesday and Thursday nights. The league begins next week and continues through early August.

"It's a fun league,'' said Maria Monges, who has been on the team for several years. "The players can bring their kids, and it's not a super-competitive atmosphere. We just want to have fun and get some exercise. We all want it to be fun."

The Weed Whackers are managed by Karen McMahon and Megan Brooks. The team currently has 10 players on its roster. With family commitments and vacations, it needs several more to register before next week. "They don't need to have experience,'' Monges said. "If you have some skills, that's great."
