Weston Track Athletes Bring Home Gold

Weston's boys crowned two individual champions and won the 4 x 800 relay en route to a second place team finish Wednesday at the Class M track and field championships at Willowbrook Park. Emily Savage won one event and finished third in two others to lead the girls to a fourth-place finish.

Sophomore David Stankiewicz won the 800 in 1:57.96, a personal best. Stephen Vento won the 1,600 in 4:34.74, followed by Stankiewicz in 4:36.21. Vento added a second place finish in the 3,200 in 9:43.12. Brad DeMarco was fourth in the 3,200 in 10:04.42, and Noah Krassin was eighth.

Weston also won the 4 x 800 in 8:15.44. The Trojans also picked up points with Paul Philpott (third, 400), third place in the 4 x 400 relay and Harry Manning (fifth, pole vault). Bloomfield won the team title with 129.75 points. Weston finished with 78.

Savage, a sophomore, had a meet to remember on the girls side, winning the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 6 inches. With fewer misses, she edged teammate Erica Litvak, who cleared the same height. Daniella Janis was third, and Andrea Janis was tied for seventh in the same event. Savage's vault was a personal best.

Savage was third in the triple jump, sailing 34 feet, 11 inches, which was nearly 19 inches better than her previous best. She took third in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches.

Other girls who picked up points for Weston in individual events included Kara Bucara (fifth, 1,600), Chloe Shapiro (sixth, high jump), Daniella Janis (eighth, long jump), Sarah Dietzman (eighth, triple jump) and Ellie Martin (fourth, javelin).

Weston also finished fifth in the 4 x 100 relay and third in the 4 x 400 relay. The 4 x 100 relay was comprised of Dietzman, Martin, Amanda Matluck and Callie Arlo. The 4 x 4 consisted of Bucaro, Sydney Allon, Martin and Arlo.

The Trojans finished with 61 points in a tight battle behind winner Hillhouse, which compiled 128 points. Tolland took second with 73, and Career Magnet finished with 71. Complete results are available on the www.casciac.org website.
