Several Weston swimmers helped the Wilton Y Wahoos clinch their 25th consecutive Connecticut YMCA State Swimming Championship title earlier this month.
Eight-year-old Katie Parks posted personal bests in each of her events, including the 8 and under 25 and 50 freestyle and the 25 backstroke. Among the many Weston swimmers scoring points in individual events was Karyn Bartosic, who took third in the 10 and under 50 back, fifth in the 50 fly and 11th in the 100 breast. Siera Daly was third in the 10 and under 100 back, fourth in the 100 fly, and seventh in the 100 breast. Also in the 10 and under girls, Sadie Rudolph put up best times in the 50 breast (by more than five seconds!) and the 50 back.
In the 10 and under boys category, 9-year-old Connor Morikawa was second in the 50 breast and fifth in the 100 individual medley, while his teammate Charlie Palsho touched first in the 50 breast, second in the 100 individual medley and third in the 50 fly. Brandon Berger was 10th in the 100 back and fourth in the 100 breast.
Swimming in the 11-12 age group, Kiersten Daly took home the gold in the 100 back, silver in the 100 fly and third in the 200 individual medley. Carolyn Morikawa was fifth in the 100 breast, seventh in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 200 individual medley. Stefan Garbee was fourth in the 200 individual medley, fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 breast. Daniel Solinsky was ninth in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly and 10th in the 50 breast. Weston's Eoghan Brennan also swam fast for the Wahoos, slashing his 50-yard freestyle time by more than 2 seconds.
Clayton Morikawa swam to seventh in the 13-14 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 200 breast and the 400 individual medley, while Brenna Nimkoff was ninth in the 200 fly and 11th in the 100 fly among 13- to 14-year-old girls. Ilana Berger also put in strong swims in the 13-14 age group, chalking up personal bests in the 100 back, 200 individual medley, 200 free and 100 fly.
In the 15- to 18-year-old category, Olivia Clark was eighth in the 100 breaststroke, while fellow Weston residents Charlotte Berger, Katherine Angelidis and Lauren Solinsky all put in great performances as part of the title-winning effort.
The Wilton Y Wahoos have won the Connecticut YMCA state championship title every year since 1987. This year the team scored an impressive 4,837 points overall. Greenwich YWCA was second with 2,643 overall team points.
