Weston Swimmers 2nd in Class S Meet

Weston sophomore Jordan Berger won the 100-yard breaststroke to help the Trojans to a second-place team finish at Wednesday's Class S swimming championships at Wesleyan University.

Weston finished with 382 points. Sacred Heart won the meet with 591.5. Weston won the title last year, followed by Sacred Heart, which also won in 2009.

Coming into the meet with a lineup loaded with underclassmen, the Trojans had several impressive performances en route to the runner-up finish.

Senior freestyler Spencer Kelley touched second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free. Kelley also swam on the second place 200 freestyle relay and the fourth place 200 medley relay.

Berger swam on the medley relay and 200 free relay as well. He also took fifth in the 100-yard butterfly. He won the breaststroke in 59.91, nearly two seconds ahead of runner-up Andrew Lee of Plainville.

The other members of the medley relay included sophomore Martin Imber and freshman Eli Carter. Martin Imber and Gabriel Imber joined Berger and Kelley on the 200 free relay.

Gabriel Imber (fourth in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free), Gabe Rosen (eight in the 200 individual medley) and Dean Rapp (eighth, diving) were Weston's other top performers.

The swimmers will compete in the State Open Saturday at Yale University. The meet begins at 2:30.
