Weston Stands Tall at League Track Championships

WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s boys finished second and the girls third in the South-West Conference indoor track and field championships Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Newtown’s boys won with 93, and Weston was second with 64. Immaculate of Danbury won the girls meet with 87, followed by Newtown (81) and Weston (71.25).

David Stankiewicz won the 1,000 for the boys, and Larry Cass captured the shot put.

Emily Savage had an outstanding meet for the girls, winning the long jump and high jump. She finished second in the pole vault. She tied the first place girl on height, but had more misses.

Weston’s boys took fourth in the 4 x 200 meter relay with Jensen Frost, Simeon Okoro, Greg Kaeser and Jon Savicky. In the 4 x 800 relay, the team of Jack Curren, Matt Bolin, Cole Clark and Noah Krassin took second. Frost was third in the 600, while Brad Demarco and Clark went 5 and 6 in the 1,600. Weston’s sprint medley of Okoro, Brian Lonergan, Savicky and Krassin also took second. The 4 x 400 relay was also second with Frost, Savicky, Okoro and Stankiewicz. Nick Dibarthalomeo added a second place finish in the pole vault.

Weston’s girls took second in the opening 4 x 200 relay with Sydney Allon, Whitney Farber, Hannah Goodman and Amanda Matluck. The Trojans were sixth in the 4 x 800 with a team that included Stephanie Buffa, Caitlin Coates, Helena Low and Jordan Isaacs.

Matluck took seventh in the 55 meter dash, and Low was fifth in the 600. The sprint medley took third with Allon, Goodman, Matluck and Michella Dyson, and Farber added a fourth place finish in the 300. Allon, Farber, Goodman and Low combined to take third in the 4 x 400 relay.

Traditionally strong in girls field events, the Trojans did not disappoint. Tess Fagan took second in the high jump behind Savage, and was eighth in the long jump. Kaylie Bucaro took fifth in the shot put, and Stephanie Thompson, Andre Janis and Nicole Decanio picked up points in the pole vault.
