Weston Softball Takes a Whipping at Bunnell

WESTON, Conn. – The Weston High School softball team dropped to 2-4 with an 11-2 shellacking at Bunnell on Wednesday.

Kat Fischer hit a triple and a home run for the Trojans, who managed only two other hits — singles by Lianna Hursh and Shely Merberg.

Kelsey Sacane pitched well for Weston but was hurt by shaky defense, which allowed nine unearned runs.

Weston coach Dave Lustberg said the team had been playing well before Wednesday’s loss. “We’re pitching well and hitting ahead of expectations,” he said. “We’ve had injuries, so some of our defensive players are playing out of position. We’re struggling to get healthy, but once our defense comes around we’ll be solid.”

Their next chance at solidity comes Friday with a home game against Pomperaug at 4:15 p.m.
