Weston Lacrosse Falls in State Playoffs

Weston's boys lacrosse season came to a disappointing end Wednesday with an 8-6 loss to St. Joseph in the first round of the Class S tournament. The defending state champions finished the season 11-7.

St. Joseph, the No. 12 seed, outscored fifth-seeded Weston 6-2 in the second half to advance to the quarterfinals against No. 4 Ledyard. Pat Corcoran scored four goals for the Cadets (9-8).

Richie Miller had two goals and an assist for Weston. Jack Scheufele, Lyle Mitchell, Daniel Rogers and Kip McMahon also netted goals. Miller, Mitchell and Eddie Hutchins collected assists, and goalie Alex Peyreigne made 13 saves.

After starting the season with six straight wins, mostly against inferior opponents, Weston struggled with injuries and a lack of depth. The Trojans lost three of their final four games, including two setbacks to South-West Conference tournament champion Newtown.
