Weston Lacrosse Battles for Good Cause

The Weston Lacrosse Club hosted the first ever Weston Lacrosse Turkey Shoot Tournament on Saturday as high school teams from Weston, Fairfield, Guilford and Newtown battled for bragging rights and to raise money and collect used equipment to benefit the Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse Association.

Several athletes from Bridgeport Central High School lacrosse team joined forces with the Weston High School team.

"Lacrosse is truly a brotherhood, and the Weston Lacrosse Club is dedicated to helping spread the love of the game," said Betsy Peyreigne, a parent and community volunteer whose son plays for Weston.

Since 2009, Weston has helped support the Bridgeport association by donating more than $10,000 in used lacrosse equipment. The Weston club also helps to fund the annual Bridgeport Lacrosse Day start-of-season tournament every spring. During this tournament, Weston High and the Weston Club lacrosse players compete against other local schools to inspire the Bridgeport youth to participate in lacrosse.

Don Wilson, founder and president of the Bridgeport association, said he was thankful for the mutual friendships created among student athletes in Bridgeport and Weston. John Mathews, coach of Weston High lacrosse, also played a large role in the success of the tournament.
