Weston Earns No. 6 Seed for League Playoffs

WESTON, Conn. – Weston earned the No. 6 seed for the South-West Conference tournament and will meet No. 3 Notre Dame of Fairfield in Saturday’s quarterfinals at Masuk High School in Monroe.

Weston finished the regular season 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the conference after beating Bunnell, 63-61, Tuesday. The Trojans won their last four games to reach the playoffs, including a 62-59 win against top-seeded Immaculate.

Weston lost to Notre Dame during the regular season, 68-41, its worst loss of the season. That setback came during a five-game losing skid for the Trojans, who were missing several players with injuries during the losing streak.

The Trojans have focused on defense down the stretch, holding teams to an average of 51 points per game during their current winning streak. Senior guard Max Molinsky leads the team in scoring with an average of 13.8 points per game. Lyle Mitchell is averaging 10.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. 

In other first-round matchups, No. 7 Masuk plays No. 2 Kolbe-Cathedral at 2 p.m., No. 5 Brookfield meets No. 4 Bunnell at 5 p.m. and No. 1 Immaculate plays No. 8 Stratford at 7 p.m. Saturday’s winners advance to the semifinals Tuesday at Newtown. The league championship game is scheduled for Thursday at Weston.
