Weston Cross Country Wins Manchester Invitational

WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s boys cross country team takes on Newtown Tuesday in a battle of undefeated squads in the South-West Conference. The Trojans are coming into the race with a full head of steam after winning the small school division of the Winding Trails Invitational Saturday in Farmington.

Led by junior James Murphy, the Trojans compiled 62 points. There were 12 teams in the race, and Weston outran two teams that it lost to earlier this fall, Nonnewaug and Lewis Mills. Nonnewaug took second with 75 points, and Ellington was third with 95. Lewis Mills finished fourth with 100.

Murphy finished eighth in 16:49.2. He was followed by Will Glaser (10th, 17:01.7), David Stankiewicz (12th, 17:08.7), Noah Krassin (15th, 17:28.7) and Sam Augustyn (17th, 17:29.7). Michael Aaron (25th, 18:01.9) and Henry Morris (27th, 18:09.7) also ran well for the Trojans.

Weston also won the junior varsity race, led by Matt Bolin’s win in 18:48.3. Weston finished with 34 points in the eight-team race. Other scorers for Weston included Trammel Satzgeber (fifth, 19:34.3), Henry Racey (seventh, 19:46.3), Connor Gorkin (eighth, 19:51.1) and Bailey Schweitzer (13th, 20:21.3).

Newtown comes in to Tuesday’s race with its own momentum. It won the large school division at Winding Trails. Tuesday’s race is at Joel Barlow beginning at 4:30 p.m.
