Weston Boys, Girls Take SWC Track Titles

Weston High's boys and girls track and field teams won South-West Conference honors at Sunday's league championship meet at the New Haven Athletic Complex. The boys held off Brookfield by four points, while the girls outdistanced Newtown.

Weston's boys totaled 71 points. Stephen Vento (1,000, 3,200) was Weston's only individual winner. The Trojans also took first place with their 4 x 800 relay of Sam Reuben, Jack Curren, Brad Demarco and Noah Krassin and the 4 x 400 relay of Jack Steinharter, Demarco, David Stankiewicz and Paul Philpott.

Kara Bucaro had a brilliant meet for the girls, who compiled 101 points. She won the 600, anchored the victorious 1,600 sprint medley relay and ran on the 4 x 400 relay. The sprint medley unit consisted of Amanda Matluck, Erica Litvak, Sydney Allon and Bucaro. Allon, Whitney Farber and Callie Arlo joined Bucaro on the winning 4 x 400 relay.

Arlo also had an excellent meet for the Trojans, running on two winning relays and taking second in the 300. The 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays were run in consecutive order in the meet, leaving the girls little time for recovery. Litvak won the pole vault for Weston's only other individual win in the girls meet.

The boys team will compete in the Class S championships Thursday. The girls will run in the Class M championships Saturday. Complete meet results are available online.
