WESTON, Conn. The Weston eighth-grade football team made a successful debut in the Fairfield County Football League with a 22-16 victory over Ridgefield on Saturday.
Weston battled back after trailing 8-0 and 16-8. Weston took the lead with under one minute to play following an interception, then clinched the game with another interception of a Ridgefield pass on the final possession.
It was team effort for Weston, which received contributions from its entire roster to pull out the victory. Ridgefields team went 7-3 last season as seventh-graders before losing in the league semifinals.
In other Weston games, the seventh-grade team lost to Westport North, 6-0; the sixth-grade team fell to Wilton, 13-0; and Ridgefield Orange beat the fifth-grade team, 22-6.
Westons sixth- and eighth-graders have home games on Saturday at Weston High School beginning at 10 a.m. The complete league schedule is on the Fairfield County Football League website.
