Swim Team Splashes for Cash

The Joel Barlow/Immaculate High boys swim team needs your help. For years, Joel Barlow and Immaculate High Schools struggled to put together swimming programs on their own. But five years ago they combined under the name BMAC. Now entering its fifth year, BMAC is holding its annual "Splash for Cash" to raise funds for the rapidly growing program.

The team will collect pledged money from donors for every lap they swim. Donors can pledge money per lap up to 100 laps. Interest in the team has exploded since its founding, with 31 members on last season's roster. Because of the increased interest, both schools will be able to have their own swim programs in 2011. Funding from both schools has increased, but the program still relies on private donations.

"Splash for Cash" will be held at the Redding Country Club on Monday, Aug. 30. To make a donation to BMAC Swimming, checks can be made payable to "JBHS Student Activity Fund" and sent either to the team member or Lauri Harder, JBHS boys swim team coordinator, 21 Mountainview Drive, Redding, CT 06896. All donations are tax deductible.
