Pink Ladies End Weston Softball Title Drought

WESTON, Conn. – The Pink Ladies ended a 21-year championship drought, hanging on to win the Weston Women's Softball League title on Thursday evening. The Pink Ladies held off a late rally by Camelot Real Estate to come away with a 5-2 victory.

Camelot jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Becca Schwartz, but the Pink Ladies responded with a four-run third inning. After a Camelot error knotted the game at 1-1, Peg Mendoza provided the big blow of the game with a two-run single.

Two batters later, Sandy Buccaro drove in Mendoza with a ringing double to left field, giving the Pink Ladies all the offense they would need. Kelli McInnis provided an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI double.

Camelot tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Dionne Dunham. Camelot brought the tying run to the plate, but the Pink Ladies' solid defense secured the victory and the title.

The Pink Ladies ended the two-year reign of Peter's Spirits, going undefeated in the playoffs.
