Montelli Helps Duke Reach NCAA Tourney

Durham, N.C. is a long way from Fairfield County, but players from Norwalk, Darien, Westport and Weston have helped the Blue Devils earn a No. 5 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The area players were also instrumental in a win over a team from their old stomping grounds on Sunday.

Norwalk's Dan Theodoridis, Darien's Sam Spillane, Westport's Robert Rotanz and Weston's Tom Montelli play for the Blue Devils, (12-5), who play Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

Theodoridis, a senior defenseman who played at Norwalk High, has started 14 of Duke's 16 games. Rotanz, a sophomore from Westport who played at Fairfield Prep, had a goal in Sunday's 19-7 win over Sacred Heart. He has seven goals on the season and has played in all 16 games. Spillane, who also scored against SHU, is a junior from Darien. Montelli, a junior from Weston, has three goals and has played in all 16 games.

Duke will be making its 14th NCAA appearance. The Blue Devils play Johns Hopkins in a first-round game Saturday in Durham.
