Greens Farms Throws Scare Into Hamden Hall

WESTPORT, Conn. — Defending Fairchester Athletic Association champion Hamden Hall rallied in the final minutes Wednesday night to defeat Greens Farms Academy, 61-54, in boys basketball. Hunter Eggers scored 12 points and Sean Obi scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Dragons (3-2 overall, 2-2 league).

Greens Farms led 31-24 at halftime and still had the lead with 2:30 remaining before Hamden Hall (3-1, 1-0) made its final push. Hamden Hall returned all of its starters from a team that went 13-1 in the league last year and won the conference tournament. Hamden Hall also won the New England tournament, topping opponents by an average of 31 points in the playoffs.

“They have all been together and winning at a high level for a couple of years now,’’ Greens Farms coach Doug Scott said. “My guys have been playing games together for just a week now. I think that really showed up in the second half. They were just a little more certain as to what they needed to get done.”

Obi and Eggers, both of Greenwich, each had four assists for Greens Farms. Matt Tate of Greenwich added nine points and five assists, while Darien’s Patrick Ryan had eight points and four rebounds. Tremont Waters, a seventh-grader from New Haven, scored 10 points.

The game capped a five-game opening-season road trip for Greens Farms. It returns to the court on Jan. 5 against Rye Country Day for its first home game. See video highlights from the Hamden Hall game by clicking on the link..
