WESTPORT, Conn. Meighan Grady scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Greens Farms Academys girls opened their basketball season Wednesday with a 25-24 victory over Chase Collegiate of Waterbury.
GFA graduated five players from last years squad, and the new cast stepped up in the first game. Senior captain Bridgette Foster of Southport excelled on defense and scored two points. Grady, a junior captain from Darien, led the offense. Freshman Lisa Johnson added five points, and Miranda Princi (Darien) and Jessica Liu (Westport) added two apiece.
Greens Farms led most of the way. Chase took a two-point lead, 24-22, with 1:30 left. Grady then took a feed from Foster for the game-tying basket, and after a defensive stop, Johnson made the front end of a 1-and-1 for the deciding point.
Greens Farms plays York School in the Rye Country Day tournament Friday at 5 p.m.
