Greens Farms Girls' Tennis Second in New England

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Greens Farms Academy girls' tennis team wrapped up a stellar season by taking second place in the New England Class A Tennis Tournament at the Hotchkiss School this past weekend.

Greens Farms players competing in the tournament included Frankie Garofalo (sophomore, Norwalk), Kyja Kutnick (junior, Redding), Caitlin Rummelsburg (junior, Fairfield), Hayley Sanzone (senior, Redding), Olivia Kjorlien (junior, New Canaan) and Avery Wolfe (freshman, Darien).

As the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Greens Farms defeated Loomis Chaffee and Kingswood-Oxford to earn a spot in the final against the undefeated and top-seeded Hotchkiss.

Greens Farms won two of the three doubles matches before the six singles matches took to the courts. The strength of the Hotchkiss singles lineup was impressive, and despite very close matches, Greens Farms was unable to keep its lead.

In the match of the day, playing No. 1 doubles for GFA, Garofalo and Sanzone faced multiple match points in an incredible comeback victory. Down 4-7 in the pro-set, the duo battled to a 9-7 win in a magnificent display of doubles smarts and mental toughness.

This is the third time in four years Hotchkiss has won the New England title. Last year, GFA and Hotchkiss shared second place with Kingswood-Oxford taking first.
