Former UConn Player Craig Austrie Coming to Easton

EASTON, Conn. – Former University of Connecticut basketball player Craig Austrie will host a March Madness party at the Easton Community Center on Friday that is open to all area middle school students.

Austrie, who graduated from UConn in 2009, is a former player for the Springfield Armor in the NBA Development League. He was named First Team All-State in 2004 and 2005 and the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2005. He was a starting player with UConn in the 2009 Final Four.

The party will begin Friday, March 23, with a basketball skills challenge at 6 p.m., in which players can enter a three-point shootout, free-throw and layup competitions, and a two-ball relay race. Then from 7 to 9 p.m., middle schoolers will watch the Sweet 16 round in the NCAA tournament with Austrie.

To sign up, call the Easton Community Center at (203) 459-9700 or register in person at 364 Sport Hill Road. The first 30 students to sign up will each receive an autographed poster and photo of Austrie.
