Obi was honored for his two solid performances in games last week. He averaged 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. He shot 62.5 percent from the field as well.
In last Wednesday’s 63-61 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Obi paced the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both marks were season highs. With the game tied and 2:14 remaining, it was an Obi basket that put Rice ahead for good. On Saturday, against Princeton, Obi led the team with nine rebounds and tied for the lead with nine points. He also had two blocks.
Obi leads C-USA with a 71.0 field goal percentage on the season and stands eighth in the league with 8.6 rebounds per game. He has led Rice in rebounding in each of the team’s five games on the season.
