Fairfield Mariners Play for Senior League Title

The defending champion Fairfield Mariners will meet the Monroe Top Hats in a best-of-three series this weekend for the Fairfield County Men's Senior Baseball League championship. The Stamford Phillies and Westport Cardinals will meet in the President's Cup finals this weekend, also in a best-of-three playoff.

The Mariners advanced by beating the Bridgeport Brewers in the semifinals. The Top Hats swept the New Canaan Cannons, 7-0 and 5-0, to reach the finals. The Top Hats finished 14-2 during the regular season, one game ahead of the Mariners.

The Cardinals swept the Trumbull Titans, 9-3 and 2-1, in the semifinals. The Phillies lost to the Bridgeport Dodgers, 5-4, before bouncing back with a 19-1 victory to force a deciding game. The Phillies scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth in the final to earn an 11-10 victory. Nick Laganza had two hits and four RBIs for the Phillies.
