EASTON, Conn. Eastons 9 and under soccer team, the Easton U9 Giants, won the Newtown Soccer Clubs 30th annual Kickoff Tournament over the Memorial Day weekend with two wins and two ties.
Easton defeated Bethel and Newtown and tied Weston Gold and Weston Blue in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association event.
The team also scored the most goals in the division, 6, and gave up the fewest, 4.
An impressive possession game with an opportunistic offense and a solid defense lead by goal keeper Big Ben Massey were keys to the Giants victory.
Coach Declan Curtin and managers Craig Viani and Robert DeVellis applauded the team's effort and were encouraged by the boys' win over the neighboring towns.
