Easton 5th-Graders' Comeback Falls Short

A feisty Easton fifth-grade boys basketball team played hard but fell to Stamford JCC, 34-31, Saturday in a spirited matchup where the lead changed hands five times in the second half in Fairfield County Youth Basketball League action.

Midway through the second quarter, Stamford went on a 9-0 run to pull away 17-6. After a timeout, Easton started a full-court press and nabbed three quick turnovers. Easton stormed back in the final four minutes, closing the half on a 12-0 run to take the lead 18-17. Both teams played at the top of their game in the second half, but Stamford got the crucial final basket.

Teddy Burke led Stamford with 20 points, while Nathan Salm added seven. Ephraim Zucker did not get on the score sheet, but he was a standout dribbling and passing. He led the team in assists, helping on almost every Stamford scoring play. Easton's Will Cussick had a game high 22 points.

It was the second heartbreaking loss in a row for Easton after losing by two to Ridgefield last Saturday.
