Barlow Girls Medal in Rhode Island Race

EASTON, Conn. – The Joel Barlow girls cross country team traveled to Goddard Park in East Greenwich, R.I., on Saturday to participate in the 29th annual Brown University New England championships. The event attracts teams from New England and Long Island.

Barlow finished ninth out of 17 teams in the 2.4-mile freshman race. Abbie Winter led the way, finishing 30th. Gabrielle Lemma, Maia Lemma, Dana Ceva and Lily Mittleman completed the scoring for the Falcons.

In the junior varsity event, Helen Phillips placed 19th to earn a medal and pace the team to a fourth  place finish out of 16 teams. Lindsey Doyle narrowly missed a medal, finishing 21st, while Adrienne Dooley, Megan Ceva and Julia Wargo all scored team points in the race.

In the Division 1 varsity race, co-capatin Emily Winter ran a sparkling time of 19:49 to earn a 15th place finish and earn Barlow's second medal of the day. Barlow's varsity team claimed 10th place out of 28 teams with Caitlin Neary, Olivia Wilson, Maddy Price and Erika Marini following Winter over the finish line. The Falcons will be back in action on Thursday at the South West Conference championships at 4:30 p.m. at Bethel High School. Complete results of Saturday's meet are available online.
