Barlow Athletes Win Events at State Track

EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow’s girls finished third and junior Logan Fulton won two events for the boys to pace a strong performance by the Falcons at the Class MM track and field championships Thursday at Veterans Stadium in New Britain.

Brittney Dumas won the pole vault with a height of 10 feet for Barlow’s only win in girls events. The Falcons picked up plenty of points elsewhere, however, and finished with 49. Hillhouse ran away with the league title with 123, followed by Ledyard with 51. RHAM and Barlow finished with 49. Barlow’s boys finished 14th with 25. Tolland won with 75.

Dumas had a splendid day for the Falcons, adding a second in the high jump. She also placed ninth in the javelin, narrowly missing another point. Tiffany Fernandes (third, pole vault) and Hannah Makowske (fourth, discus) also picked up points in field events.

On the track, Barlow was fourth in the  4 x 800 relay and fifth in the 4 x 400 relay. In individual events, Shea Barickman (sixth) and Jillian Marini (seventh) picked up points in the 400. Beatrice Blackwell was seventh in the 800, and Grace Ellis was ninth. Both ran their best tmes of the year. Alexandra Bender added a seventh place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, and Lindsay Doyle was eighth in the 300 hurdles.

Fulton won the 1,600 in 4:25.06 and the 3,200 in 9:47.53. Austin Sundlof added a fifth place finish in the 110 high hurdles.
