Barlow Athletes Shine at State Open Track Meet

EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow junior Logan Fulton finished fifth in the 1,600 and the girls 4 x 800 relay team set a school record to highlight performances by Falcon athletes in the State Open track and field meet Monday at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.

Fulton ran 4:20.54, a drop of nearly five econds from his seeded time of 4:25.06. That effort was good enough to land him a berth in the New England High School Championships at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine June 9.

For the girls, Brittney Dumas tied for eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 0 inches, to score Barlow’s only team points.

The 4 x 8 relay team, however, re-wrote the school record for the third time this year. Anchor Jillian Marini unleashed a furious kick down the stretch to bring the baton home in 9:47.23, eclipsing the school mark by more than four seconds. The previous mark was set at the South-West Conference championships in late May. Other relay members were Bea Blackwell, Olivia Wilson and Caitlin Neary. Barlow finished ninth out of the 28 teams that qualified for the race.

Other event participants were Tiffany Fernandes in the high jump, Hannah Makowske in the discus, Dumas in the pole vault and Shea Barickman, Gillian Blackwell, Blackwell and Marini in the 4 x 400 relay. Complete results are available online.
