Aspetuck Wildcats Honor Their Athletes, Scholars

WESTON, Conn. – The Aspetuck Wildcats Association celebrated its 2011 season with a tribute banquet for its national champion U-13 cheerleading team and its seventh- and eighth-grade football teams, which both advanced to the league semi-finals.

The association also handed out its annual scholarships to six young men and women who have demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics. The 2011 Aspetuck Wildcats Association Scholarship winners include (pictured above): Allyson Stillman (Redding), Emma Nayden (Weston), Jacqueline Goetz (Weston), Matthew Pompa (Easton), Steve Gordon (Easton) and James Milne (Weston). The winners are flanked by association president Jeff Gombos and cheer commissioner Darlene Wallin.

Also at the banquet were members of the 2008 American Youth Football Seventh Grade Football National Championship team, which went 12-1 that season. The Aspetuck Wildcats Association will open registration this year in April, with practices beginning Aug. 6 at the association’s joint practice facility in Easton. All Wildcats home games are at Weston High School.
