2 Saugatuck Teams Take 2nd on Charles

Two teams from the Saugatuck Rowing Club took second places in the juniors competition last weekend at the Head of the Charles regatta in Cambridge, Mass.

The Youth Doubles Women team of Alex Zadravec and Lizzy Youngling finished in 18:59.435. Y Quad Cities won the race and edged Saugatuck's team by 0.035 seconds. In the boys race, Max Meyer-Bosse and Graham Anderson finished second in the Youth Doubles Men event in 17:02.709. Brentwood College School won by a little more than 4 seconds.

The Saugatuck Masters Women's 4+ took second in the 40-and-over division. The Masters Women's 4+ in the 50-and-over division took third.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is the world's largest two-day rowing competition. This year's event attracted more than a quarter of a million spectators and 8,000 participants. Boats race against the clock after starting at the Boston University boathouse and finish three miles away.

In the Masters competition, the 40-and-over crew included Renne Bowie, Susan Schmidt, Sue Padilla, Pam Raila and coxswain Mike O'Leary. In the 50 years old event, Saugatuck's crew consisted of Valeire Lainfelder, Caryn Purcell, Kate Kislevitz, Liz Turner and coxswain Alison Reilly.
