Westport's Earthplace Adds New Preschool Program

WESTPORT, Conn. – Earthplace, Westport’s nature discovery center, will offer a new preschool program beginning this fall for children who turn 5 by Dec. 31, the center announced.

“This new program will focus on getting children ready for kindergarten while not straying from the mission to educate the children about nature, the environment and the world around us,” said Laurie Linton, director of educational services.

The program's curriculum will focus on math and literacy components, as well as teachable moments. Each week, children will go on nature hikes along the center’s 62-acre sanctuary, interact with the center’s animal residents and participate in gym and music.

“We believe that as active learners, children learn through exploration and discovery,” Linton said. “At Earthplace, children can explore, create and be involved in concrete, hands-on, multisensory child and teacher-directed activities in order to develop and learn to an optimum level.”

To support an individualized and personal learning environment, the program's capacity is 11 children.

The program will begin in September and will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. weekdays. Each parent will have the option to extend their child’s day to 3 p.m. To schedule a tour of Earthplace Nursery School or for more information, contact Laurie Linton at director@earthplacenurseryschool.org or 203-227-7253, Ext. 119.
