A total of $550,000 has been approved for school renovation projects in Weston, state Rep. John Shaban said Friday.
The funds were included in a large school construction bonding bill (S.B. 1242) approved by the state House of Representatives, 121-11, and by the state Senate, 23-11, on June 4. Shaban, a Republican who represents Weston, Easton and Redding, voted in favor of the bill.
"These are precisely the types of projects for which the state can and should borrow money," said Shaban, a member of the legislature's Finance Committee. "Funding long-term school infrastructure through cheap long-term debt is a proper use of our bonding capacity."Under the bill, Weston High School would receive $251,901 to replace windows in classrooms, offices and window walls in courtyards with energy-efficient windows. Energy-efficient egress windows will also be added to each classroom.Similarly, Weston Middle School is slated to receive $298,981 to put energy-efficient windows in offices, classrooms and courtyard window walls. Egress windows will be added to 26 classrooms, and a correction of certain accessibility and alternate entrances.The bill awaits the signature of Gov. Dannel Malloy.
