WESTON, Conn. -- The No. 1 reason to volunteer at Weston's schools is "it ultimately benefits the kids," said Weston resident Jodi Sacchetta.
"That's what [parent teacher organizations] are all about," said Sacchetta, who is the communications/webmaster chair of the executive committee for Hurlbutt Elementary and Weston Intermediate schools.
Hurlbutt Elementary and Weston Intermediate schools are searching for parents to volunteer as room parents, bus riders and greeters and for the Back to School Faculty and Staff Luncheon.
"Bus riders and greeters are very critical for the first couple days of school. For new students and kindergartners, it can be very nerve wracking and frightening," said Sacchetta. The bus riders ride a bus - not necessarily the same bus as his or her child - for the morning run and short day kindergarten. Greeters welcome the students at Hurlbutt when they get off the bus.
The volunteers are a "connection between the teachers and the parents," said Sacchetta. They help find volunteers for field trips and go to monthly PTO meetings.
Sacchetta, who has volunteered in the past, said "it's a great position to be in. It's a rewarding experience to get into the classroomand see what goes on with the kids... Every little bit you can do helps children and enhances their experience.
