Weston Schools Ponder Make-Up Days

Weston Public Schools will have a full day of school Tuesday, Feb. 8, rather than the previously scheduled two-hour delayed start for professional development.

"During the past five weeks we have had seven snow days and six other adjustments to the school day," Weston's former superintendent Jerry Belair said in a letter.

"The frequency of storms has been very intensive, and the Weston Board of Education is concerned about fulfilling the statutory responsibility to have 180 days of school for students."

The school board is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the Weston Library meeting room. The snow date is Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Weston Intermediate School Library.

"It is anticipated that attention will focus upon either the canceling of the February recess or using the April recess to make up necessary school days," Belair said.

Residents with any questions or concerns should contact Interim Superintendent of Schools John Reed at johnreed@westonk12-ct.org.

"No matter what course of action the Board of Education decides to take it will be an inconvenience or hardship to some students, their families and some staff members," Belair said. "My hope is that we can work through this situation in a manner that recognizes that this is an extraordinary winter that has necessitated consideration of a change to the Weston calendar."
