Weston was one of 307 school districts named "best communities for music education" by the NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit that encourages people of all ages to learn music. The rankings recognize districts where parents, students and teacher work together to keep music a key part of the curriculum, the foundation said in a press release.
“There is overwhelming research tying music education to higher overall student success in school and in life,” said Mary Luehrsen, NAMM's executive director. “This designation recognizes communities for their commitment to music education and strengthens support for these programs."
Funding, standards and availability of music programs are all taken into account in compiling the rankings, the foundation said.
