WESTON, Conn. It's back-to-school time and that means fall programs will start filling up fast. Registration has been pushed back to Thursday, Sept. 8, and those interested can sign up on the Weston Youth Service's website.
"After school programs offer a wonderful opportunity for kids to remain in school where they don't have to be driven somewhere else," said Charlene Monn, program coordinator. "They're with their peers, and the instructors are warm and understanding. Many are staff and faculty members. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn and experience new programs and continue with programs they've enjoyed in the past. It's in a safe environment and, most of all, it's fun."
A total of 25 programs are offered this year for students in kindergarten through second grade in the Weston One World (WOW!) programs. Descriptions for each program are available online, and students will come home with a flier as well.
Short-day programs for kindergartners run from 1:15 to 2:25 p.m. The K-WOW program on Mondays runs from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. with an option for students to take the bus home afterward.
There are 15 programs, both before and after school, at the Weston Intermediate School, with new programs that include origami, creative writing, knitting and karate. Descriptions for these programs are also available online. New programs include engineering with Legos and a magic class, which includes kindergarten.
Three sessions of the popular Sitter Safety program will be offered at Weston Middle School. This is a five-week program offered to students in sixth through eighth grades.
