WESTON, Conn. The Weston Education Foundation is accepting applications for the Community Education Grant. The grant gives Weston-based organizations and individuals the opportunity to apply for up to $1,500 to develop educational programs to benefit its constituents and/or the residents of the town. The foundation will fund up to five organizations' initiatives for 2011-12. The most recent Community Education grants were awarded to the Weston Historical Society and the Weston Sustainability Committee.
The Weston Education Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3), community-based organization whose mission is to promote excellence and innovation in education for Weston residents of all ages. Since 1994, the foundation has provided financial support for worthy projects and programs in the Weston community. Examples of past programs that have been funded are the Weston Open Learning series, Weston Talks, computer education at the Senior Center, funding for a speaker series sponsored by the Weston Sustainability Committee, Civil War remembrance activities at the Weston Historical Society, the television studio at the high school and sponsorship of the 'Years in the Making' documentary film.
The Weston Education Foundation will give priority to:
New or pilot projects
Projects that promote educational opportunities
Projects that include a clearly defined plan with defined outcomes
Projects that address sustainability at the end of the grant term (if applicable)
Projects that promote community building
Weston-based organizations or individuals are encouraged to apply for any program or project that they feel will enhance the education and community involvement of Weston residents. Organizations may apply for projects in the arts, education, culture, environment, health and human services, or any other area that they feel will be of value to the Weston community.
The Weston Education Foundation does NOT fund:
Support for religious or political organizations
Annual appeals or fundraising events
Open space purchases
For-profit, parochial, charter, or private schools
Nonprofit endowments
Capital requests
The Weston Education Foundation will accept grant applications for Community Education Grants through Nov. 1. The Grants Committee will review the applications and grants will be announced no later than Nov. 18.
