Union, Weston Schools Approve New Contract

WESTON, Conn. – The union of non-certified staff members of the Weston School District has approved a new contract with the Weston Board of Education by a near unanimous vote.

Forty union members attended a Sept. 11 meeting, and 39 voted in favor of the agreement, said Larry Dorman, spokesperson for Local 1303 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. There are 124 workers covered by the contract. Teachers and administrators are not covered by AFSCME.

The agreement, which authorizes a wage increase of 6.84 percent over three years while cutting back on health insurance benefits and other perks, “was a reasonable agreement for the workers and the town,” Dorman said. “It strikes a balance.”

The Weston Board of Education approved the agreement Thursday afternoon by a unanimous 7-0 vote.
