Students participating in the effort, sponsored through the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce, painted the windows of local businesses in the spirit of Halloween.
Contest winners were the following:
- Kaitlyn Comerford of Hurlbutt Elementary School in Weston, who painted Brooks Brothers.
- Danielle Spadacenta of Bedford Middle School in Westport, who painted Calises Food Market.
- Shealeigh Crombie, Courtlyn Crombie and Molly Liles of Greens Farms Elementary School in Westport painted Matsu Sushi.
- Danielle King, Heather LaPalme and Kayleigh Levent of Weston Middle School painted Westport Yarns.
Each winner received an award certificate and a $25 gift card from Top This Frozen Yogurt, a business that participated in the Halloween Window Painting Contest.
“This event really brought the community and our businesses together,” Matthew Mandell, Chamber of Commerce executive director, said in a news release.
“The kids had big smiles, but the merchants even more so. They all loved giving this opportunity to the kids.”
Kathie Bennewitz, town art curator; Peter Van Heerden, Westport Arts Center director; and Our Town Crier Publisher Betsy Pollack were the contest judges.
The event was “fun to do and great to see the faces and smiles behind the winning windows,” Bennewitz said in a news release.
